I used to suck at work life balance. For a long time, I struggled with balancing my business with my family, friends, me time, and other responsibilities. I was always feeling like I was running on empty, and I was never giving anyone, or anything, my all. Relationships suffered, I began to resent my business, and I felt like I was constantly failing. A few years ago, I decided enough was enough and said goodbye to overwhelm and hello to living a balanced life filled with lots of quality time with the people I love and ample free time to spend getting facials and curling up with a book. In an effort to ditch overwhelm, I made a lot of changes, got professional help to give myself a jumpstart, and found that achieving balance starts with making one simple change: setting strict business hours.View Full Post »
The Good Life: It Really Does Exist, And It’s Not as Elusive as You Think
Last night, after using my personal microdermabrasion device (if you’re as terrified of wrinkles as I am, this doohickey will thrill you!), I went to apply a few pumps of retinol cream to my almo30-year-oldold skin, and nothing came out. I was out of’ my must have wrinkle fighter, and it was too late to run to the store for more (PS- why aren’t all containers clear so we can avoid these situations?!). I let out my almost famous heavy “ohmygosh, life is so cruel” sigh, and as I examined my face in the mirror, dreaming of the 98 wrinkles that were sure to popup by morning, I realized how amazingly lucky I was to be fretting about SUCH a ridiculous problem. What a nice change to have that be the biggest of my worries. The thing is, the good life isn’t as unattainable as people think. You can live it too, and today, I’m showing you the blueprint for making it happen.View Full Post »
Write a Killer About Page (Hint: It’s Not Really About You!)
I see it all the time, about me pages that are as boring as waiting in line at the DMV, and realizing you forgot your phone and have nothing to save you from the long wait. When I go to a website, the about page is one of the first ones I visit. Why? Because I want to learn about the person behind the website. Often, I find a lackluster presentation of a bunch of bumbling garbage. Is your about page in need of a makeover? Turn it around quickly with these tips!
Learn to Say No, It’s Great for Business
Last week, I had to say no to a woman that really wanted to work with me. This particular woman hadn’t had a new client in months, and felt like she was just throwing water at walls hoping it would magically turn into glue and stick. Before starting her business, she hadn’t made a plan, didn’t do much research, and was seriously lacking when it came to marketing, sales, branding, and organization. After talking with the sweet woman for an hour, I knew working with her would be a HUGE mistake, and I told her so (tactfully, of course!). It didn’t go well, but it was the right move. Think it’s good business to work with anyone willing to throw money your way? Let me give you a new perspective to consider- one that requires you to say no, so that your business can flourish!View Full Post »
