If there is one thing that this Day in the Life series has taught me, it is how freaking ridiculously badass us business owning mommas really are. Our days are filled with business and babies so often at the same exact time, and we juggle so much and have so many plates in the air on any given day. Even when it doesn’t feel like it (when it REALLY doesn’t feel like it!), we are accomplishing so much! This month’s writer is no different, a sneak peek into what a typical day looks like for her really shows how much one can accomplish in one day. I met Korinne on Instagram, and so enjoy looking at her beautiful work. It was so fun to get to know her a little more by seeing what a day looks like for her. Go get inspired by Korinne of Everwild Photography!
Day in the Life: Tuesday, July 11th
Let me bring you into my world, a random day of my life. This summer has been the wettest so far. It’s really rough for my kids who like to spend the as much time outside as they can… and even rougher for a mom who needs some quiet time. J I’m super lucky to have the choice to be able to stay home with my two kids and also extremely fortunate to have my own photography business. My husband (Andy) works very hard for me to be able to do both!
Our day usually starts with my kids needing food… waffles, oatmeal, and cereal are my specialties. Yes, I let me kids watch TV while they eat… I get to shower and get ready for my day during this time and lets, be honest sometimes that takes some effort.
I’ve recently implemented a “chore chart.” Once breakfast is done the TV gets turned off. The kids get a check list of things that need to be done before they get to do anything fun. They are mostly simple things like pick up your dirty clothes, read for x mins, color or write for x mins, etc. mostly for some structure and schedule so they keep a routine. While my kids are doing this I take the time to check into social media, reply to emails and messages, etc.
Today I’m uploading a wedding gallery and while that is going I am hanging laundry on the line and packing things up to head to town. Always running and doing something. Last summer we moved closer to town. The kids were getting so busy that we couldn’t live 30 mins out anymore. It was such a great decision.
Today is Tuesday and just happens to be the busiest day of the week. There is more mom work than work-work. We are off for some extra-curricular activities for the kids today. My kids pick out their own outfits and my daughter chose to pair her very colorful outfit with a pair of high heels. This is one of those “chose your battle” moments. She got to wear the heels.
Our first stop is the post office to drop off some client stuff to send out, then on to gymnastics for my son (Wilder). This is only his second session and so far so good. He has a lot of fun jumping around and playing on the equipment. In the winter he does hockey, and learn to skate and right now he is also doing karate (which we attend later in the evening).
He is such an amazing little person. He is so lovey and sensitive and loves to fight and rough house. He is a momma’s boy and I secretly hope he never grows out of it.
We then headed home for some lunch and some free time. This is the time I should have been finishing laundry, doing dishes, and a million other household things but a ride on the four wheeler around our property and playing in the field are way more fun. Our dog, Winnie, is part border collie and that part of her really comes out when we are driving around. She tries to heard us and has a great time running around.
While the kids played outside for bit I needed to do some more work for my business. I worked on the gallery that was uploading earlier in the day and I also craft my own flash drives as part of my client gifts and put one of those together. I love this little personal touch. I also cleaned out and organized my camera bag to have it ready for next weekends weddings. Ill probably have to do it again since I have some sessions between now and then, but oh well.
Back to town we go for my daughter’s (Everleigh) gymnastics. She is going to be a second grader this fall and I can’t believe it. At the end of summer she is going to try cheerleading and in the winter she does figure skating. She is so independent and helpful and the light of my life. I can’t wait to see what she does in her life.
While Eveleigh is at gymnastics, I have to run wilder to a short karate lesson and when he is done I have 5 mins to get to gymnastics to pick up my daughter. It’s a stressful time because I hate being late, hasn’t happened yet though!
I usually start dinner when I get home. But to my pleasant surprise, Andy was already home cooking! Pizza and salad from at home delivery meal kit because thinking about what to have for dinner is the worst part. I also did finally get to those dishes that were piling up!
Since it’s the only nice day in the last week and the coming week we go back outside. I go and help watch Ev on her motorbike, wilder plays on the swing set, Andy works in the garage and Winnie runs until dark.
Today I have picked up dirty clothes, cleaned up kinetic sand and turned off lights in empty rooms more times than I can count. I’ve settled arguments, broken up fights, and even got a little work done. My family isn’t perfect, I’m not perfect, but I’m very grateful for this life. It is a privilege to wake up every day and live it!
I love how much love Korinne obviously pours into her family, AND her work! Anyone else want to copy her chore chart idea?! To see more of her work, check out her website, hit her up on Facebook, and get to know her on Instagram!
